Take out the drums in any rock band, and the quality of the music drops. Drummers don't get a lot of attention (minus folks like Tommy Lee, Dave Grohl (though his time in the Sun came after he was a frontman), and Travis Barker to name a few) because they are stabilizing forces in music and lack the attention of vocals and lead guitar. Hell, it happens to many bassists not named Gene Simmons (and Gene does sing on quite a few KISS songs, so he did more than bass).

Look up drumming videos from the likes of Derek Roddy and Flo Mournier for some legit crazy shit. I remember watching the Mournier DVD a while back and almost falling off my seat once he started running through some gravity blast-beats and fills.
