CLANK! It’s a shallow hitting sound, like someone banging two rocks together. It rouses Yeh Ren from unconsciousness. I don’t like this any more than you do. CLANK![/b] Then a scraping sound. Ok, that’s not completely true. John Gone lets out a wry little grin as he makes his confession. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying it just a little. Certainly more than you. CLANK![/b] Yeh Ren shakes the haze out of his head. His sight comes into focus. He tries to rub his forehead. His arms are behind him, bound tight. CLANK! But it still wouldn’t be my first choice for a course of action. Not right now. Yeh Ren is still somewhat out of it. He rubs his head against the brick wall behind him. But… He sighs. You people.
CLANK![/b] It’s a shallow hitting sound. It echoes around Yeh Ren every time Gone slaps down another brick. The trowel scrapes off the excess mortar. Gone wipes the sweat from his brow. He drops the trowel to the floor and leans against the wall. It’s a wearying process. I trust you won’t begrudge me a quick break. He lights a cigarette. I suppose it’s my own fault as much as yours. I mean, you are the one who just had to show- He makes a vague motion with one of his hands. Backbone. But, ah…I guess I just got impatient. And when that happens I tend to go straight to the drastic measures. He chuckles to himself. I guess I just don’t have much of a sense of slow burn sometimes. He flicks his cigarette and goes back to work.
Yeh Ren shakes the remaining cobwebs. He tries to yell out. Oh. Yeh Ren. Yeah, you won’t be able to talk. I gagged you while you were unconscious. CLANK![/b] Gone puts down another brick. Yeh Ren tries to free himself from his restraints. He moves his arms to the best he can but he’s bound right up against the wall. He thrashes from side to side but only hits more wall. CLANK![/b] Another brick goes on top of the wall. By now it’s almost up to Yeh Ren’s neck. Only a small opening remains around his face. I wouldn’t thrash around like that. You won’t want to be breathing heavily later on. CLANK![/b] Another brick. But, who knows. It’s an oldish building, maybe there will be some air getting in. And hell, I’m certainly no mason. CLANK![/b]
Anyways. I’m not denying fault. And I’m not denying that I’m enjoying this immensely. All I’m saying is, it could’ve gone down differently, and most of that is your own fault. I mean, most other people would have at least been phased by now. CLANK![/b] He sighs. You were one of those kids who thought that the bully would just go away if you ignore them, weren’t you? CLANK![/b] Oh well. No sense going on about it now. Here’s where we are, and I’m not about to tear all this down now. CLANK![/b] The opening is now less than half the size it was before.
Gone leans against the wall and lights another cigarette. I’m in no hurry. How about you? He tips the ashes into the hole in the wall in front of Yeh Ren. He takes a drag and sighs the smoke out Not much left anyways. Bah. He flicks the cigarette into the niche Yeh Ren inhabits. May as well finish, right? He slides a brick in and mortars it. I’ve never been very good at this last part. So I hope you’ll forgive me if it looks a little bit sloppy at the end.
The opening is now only big enough for one last brick. Gone leans down and looks into the opening at Yeh Ren. Anything more you want to say? Yeh Ren muffles something very likely obscene at Gone. Right then. Gone spreads some mortar around the hole and slides the last brick in. He mortars off a gap on one side and drops the trowel. Didn’t quite get it perfect, but better than usual. He crouches down next to Kagrra, bound and gagged on the floor at his feet, curled into the fetal position, eyes shut tight with tears streaming out.
Excuse me. He reaches over her for a piece of chalk. He stands and faces the newly built wall. He approximates Yeh Ren’s position and draws an effigy outline of him on the wall. He throws the chalk aside and takes a step back to look at his work. That looks about right, wouldn’t you say? He looks down at Kagrra. He sighs and picks her up off the floor. He forces her to stand on her own before shoving her into the wall at the chalk outline of Yeh Ren. Nod your head yes. She nods slightly. Good. Thank you. He reaches a hand up and wipes the tears off of her face. He sighs again and walks toward her until he is pressed right up against her back.
Oh, you silly girl. You silly little girl. Sleepwalking through your life as though there was nothing to trouble you. You’re living in a dream. And I’m going to bring you nightmares. He rips the tape off of her mouth and takes the ball gag out with one hand and unties her hands with the other. He’s on the other side of this wall. That’s where Yeh Ren is. Touch it. She raises a trembling hand and tentatively places it on the wall along the chalk outline. So close. You’re so very close to him. But there’s still nothing he can do to help you. There’s nobody that can help you. He smiles. Say it. I… There’s nobody that can help you. Say it. A tear escapes her clenched eye, running from her cheek down the wall. There is nobody that can help me.
The corner of Gone’s mouth curls up involuntarily. He does nothing to stop it. That’s right. Turn around. Before she can even start to turn, Gone grabs her by the shoulder and turns her himself, shoving her roughly up against the wall back first. He presses himself against her again, keeping her from escaping. He runs the tips of his fingers from the corners of her eyes down her cheeks, tracing the path of her tears. They run from her chin down her neck. They stop at her neck and press in. It’s a blood choke. His voice is almost matter-of-fact in tone. The thing I like about this is it doesn’t restrict any air flow. You can breathe freely all you want and still suffocate. Go on, take a breath. She inhales. Then again. Dazed panic spreads across her face. You know what that is? That’s you passing out with lungs full of air. Breathe deep.
Her eyes droop. So do his. She finally passes out and slumps forward. She falls against Gone, who holds her, almost caressing her. He sets her gently on the ground. He sits there a moment staring at her passed out body. Finally he stands, his fingers running briefly through his hair. Ahem. His fist pounds on the wall around the head of the chalk outline. Don’t get too worried. People know where you are, you’ll get taken out of there before too long. I’m not done with you yet. His eyes stay on Kagrra. I’m not done with either of you yet.[/font]
